Just checking in...
Oct 17, 2024
I had hoped to get something posted before this - don't like to let it go more than a month at the most. Anyway, its' been pretty quiet around here. So, I thought I'd do a sort of "progress report".
The computer and network issues have been (I'm afraid to say so too loudly) mostly dealt with. The only odd thing is that I just discovered that some of the USB ports on my PC seem only to work when they feel like it. Not the end of the world but annoying nonetheless. My nephew’s file server went belly-up so we'll be building a temporary / long-term solution to get him by until a proper replacement can be purchased. All of our PCs are running Windows 10 but none of them are good enough to upgrade to Windows 11. Joy.
The GTO is fine. I haven’t been able to drive it as much as I’d like but that’s how life goes. I'm still waiting on the radio conversion to be completed. No word yet, but the shop owner told me it might not be done until Christmas. Not much else to do but wait on it. I had decided not to pursue the replacement axle assembly and simply put up with the whine it makes. Drivability is unaffected, but with a bit more clearance than necessary, the rear end is noisy. When I get the radio back it won't be an issue - I'll just turn up the radio and let the subwoofer deal with it!
While waiting for the radio, I did decide to re-paint the snorkels on the hood of the GTO. When the previous owner painted the car, he never finished the hood scoops back to factory appearance. That's done now as you can see the black faux inlet area of the scoop inserts in the picture. This is how it looked when it left the factory.
Oh, and I stepped on a scale the other day. I won’t tell you how many times around the needle went, but let’s say it was both shocking and disappointing. Crap! Diet time - and right before the good holidays start coming around too! I hope I'll still be able to fit under the dash to reinstall the radio when it finally does arrive. Ugh! I’m going to stop writing now before I get myself depressed. Until next time.
