• Losing My Cool...

OK, right when I didn’t think anything else could go wrong this spring, the front oil seal on the GTOs air conditioning compressor decided to give up. The result being oil and fan belt debris flung all over the inner fender and underside of the hood which, in turn, ruined the under-hood insulation installed by the previous owner. I recalled recently thinking “Gee, there’s not a system on this car that I haven’t touched.” Then BAM! Something else to fix. Joy. The previous owner told me that…

  • Looking Better

I finally got the interior back together and things are looking pretty good. A short test drive verified that the tilt steering column was the right choice - very comfortable and with a much improved view of the instruments. And except for the radio, all the other items worked first time out. Of course, there are the usual tweaks and adjustments to make but they're minor. The GPS now sits where the cell phone mount was while the cell phone mount was relocated to a new bracket that attaches t…

  • Is it Spring Yet?

Historically, I've been fortunate enough never to have suffered from the usual allergies that affect most other people. That is, until now. For many, Spring brings either allergies or turns their homes into "hives" of activity (and sometimes both). Here? Not so much. As a matter of fact, the only hives happening here are the ones breaking out all over me. Not all at once either. One here, one there. Two here, one there. The cause remains a mystery but I'm itching to investigate. You ma…

  • Putting the Stretch in Home Stretch

Well, this "Home Stretch" thing is taking longer than I thought. I don't remember installing stereo speakers in the back of a car being so difficult. And, to make running the wires easier, the interior had to come out. I didn't remember the seats being so heavy either. Of course, it could be due to the fact that I don't fold up into the trunk as well as I did when I was 20 years old. I also don't remember having a "duty cycle." One day on and two days off with the applications of IcyHot, Y…

  • Home Stretch

Home Stretch. At least that’s what I’m calling it for now. I had purchased my 1970 GTO in 2019 from a fellow in Colorado only to discover that the inspector I hired to do the on-site pre-purchase inspection missed some important facts about the car, resulting in it being (in my opinion) overvalued. The owner indicated that the body had received a rotisserie restoration and everything I can see points to that being the case. And a very nice job it is too! The chassis is in overall excellent …
